During the season of Lent we pause to practice the Christian disciplines of confession, repentance, and fasting. But it’s also an opportunity to renew our practice of celebration and joy. While we do seek to be introspective and penitent in Lent; this season is also an opportunity to remind ourselves of the gift of life we have received through Christ our Lord. As we reflect on Christ and Christ’s sacrificial love for us, we are moved to sacrificial love for Christ. To aid us during the season of Lent we will be focusing our conversation together on Sunday mornings on the Book of Psalms. Each week we’ll read and pray a Psalm and I’ll also be preaching on it. We’ll have the opportunity to explore prayers of confession, prayers for strength, prayers of joy and adulation, prayers for God’s tender mercy to be present in our life, prayers for God’s power to break into our suffering, and prayers of overwhelming thanksgiving and praise as we acknowledge God for being our savior and redeemer and the restorer of this world. Would you join with me this Lent in praying this prayer found in Psalm 95; “come let’s sing out loud to the Lord! Let’s raise a joyful shout to the rock of our salvation.”
Peace +++
